ASPIN Partnerships Bring Educators Together

In addition to our connectivity efforts, partnerships in research and teaching have become central to the efforts Arizona State Public Information Network (ASPIN). Through ASPIN, we seek partner participation in the granting process-pulling together resources, researchers and practitioners to propose to funding agencies.

Our current projects include the Eruditio Project, sponsored by a grant from the USWest Foundation, which brings together faculty from ASU and other Arizona universities, establishing a state-wide network of teachers and administrators skilled in the use of telecommunications to improve student achievement.

We currently direct three National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored projects examining issues of remote connectivity with rural schools; and new Internet transfer technologies in partnership with Cox communications. Each of these projects provides an opportunity for research in the development of instructional interface, as well as with the design and delivery of effective instructional approaches.

From an internal perspective, ASPIN is positioned to assist in the technology integration design and development of educator-initiated projects and proposals. We can bring to your proposal our experience in design and evaluation of the integration of technology with education, working within the specific content area and instruction approach, we can work together to leverage the ASPIN Group personnel resources, bringing skill and talent to the proposal and maximizing the potential impact of the project focus.

As with all of our work in ASPIN, we aggressively explore ways to effectively generalize and apply the findings of specific projects. Applications, software and web-tools designed within ASPIN are modified and refined to apply across colleges, content areas and programs. Likewise, the ASPIN resources aid in the development and design of new applications-leading innovation in instructional delivery and research.

Information Technology has become a increasingly central part of the learning experience. Universities and colleges each face major challenges in ensuring that all students and faculty have access to the resources that will enable them to realize the full potential of technology to transform education.

Increasingly, students have the opportunity to work through materials at their own pace, in locations and at times that are convenient to them. Students can work together to take advantage of sound and visual capabilities to enrich their learning experience. Teachers are challenged to discover new ways to present complex concepts, to engage students in the learning process, and to expand course-related resources. The ASPIN Group provides assistance for educators interested in pursuing this vision by assembling these resources centrally, and providing ongoing support and development, ASPIN can serve as an incubator for idea development and production.

If you are interested in partnering with ASPIN in writing proposals to seek external funding, please contact Jim Casey, ASPIN Program Coordinator at casey@aspin.asu.edu, or call 965-8437.
