A partnership between the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ASU’s
College of Education, and Information Technology, Arizona EarthVision
introduces Computational Science and Environmental Studies into the high
school curriculum. EarthVision is an educational enrichment program
designed to introduce teams of schoolteachers and students to
computational science, high performance computing, and environmental
modeling. The goals and objectives of the pilot fulfill the directives of
the High Performance Computing Act of 1991. The Act directs Federal
Agencies to expand the number of researchers, educators, and
students with training in and access to high performance computing. The
goals and objectives of the Arizona pilot are based on four underlying
premises. The premises are based on findings summarized in the 1991
National Science Foundation (NFS) report called "Computational Science and
Education: Workshop of the Role of HPCC Centers in Education."
