Placement of Equipment

Once you have gotten your wireless network running you will then want to place them around your building in their appropriate places. The best way to do this is to first place the access point in a good possition, near the center of the area to be covered, away from walls, or ceilings that could cause interference. Then place your station adapters and laptops in their most used places.

Now you will want to check signal strengths. On the station adapters there are three lights that indicate transfer rate. one light denotes poor reception and 1 mb/s transfer rate. Two lights denotes good reception at 2 mb/s transfer rates and three lights is excelent reception at 3 mb/s. As is obvious all three lights is optimum for use and the access point should be located in a place that provides the highest speed connections for the most computers. Site survey software is provided with the PCMCIA adapters that can provide you with a better look at reception. This software only works with the PCMCIA Adapters however.

Once you have determined the best place to put your wireless network to offer you the best coverage, you can begin useing it.
